Dr. Adeyemi Johnson

The opening sentence of a Nigerian
newspaper column reports in July 2009, “Two patients are
recuperating in the intensive care unit of the Reddington
Hospital, Victoria Island, Lagos, following the FIRST coronary
angioplasty and stenting procedure performed in Nigeria on
Monday.” The procedure led by none other than the renowned
Cardiologist, Dr. Adeyemi Johnson. One of the patients, a
Physician, commented, “My wife and I were actually planning to
travel to India or U.K," he said. "But when I saw the expertise
and competency of the team, I decided to do it here."
Easy to see, Dr. Yemi Johnson, an
upstanding man who embodies the phrase “actions speak louder

good!” He also speaks highly of DNPT saying “It is great that
the Medical Students are involved. The earlier they are aware,
the more influence they will have, and the greater the
likelihood they will practice in Nigeria to enhance Healthcare
from within.” He expresses his support for these two groups and
speaks very highly of them.
Dr. Johnson is blessed with a wife and 3
children of ages 22, 16 and 12 who are all studying abroad. He
is a sports fanatic and is regularly active, playing tennis and
golf on a regular basis.
Upon first meeting, Dr. Adeyemi Johnson, a
simple and humble, but yet, extremely assertive man, I must
admit that I was slightly intimidated. It was fantastic to be
amidst one with such passion and zeal for medicine and Nigerian
Healthcare. Though, after speaking with him for a few minutes, I
was able to observe his humorous, and more playful side.
Weirdly, this character transcended into me and inspired me to
want more, to want to be better for myself, for my family for my
country. Hence, Dr. Johnson is an individual with a character of
a leader, character of a winner, character of a friend. He is
simultaneously cold as ice and hot as fire. His character is
very contagious, one that is needed to instill change within
ourselves and our country. Dr. Yemi Johnson is the action that
speaks louder than words. |
