BREAKING NEWS

Dear ANPA Family,

It is with a heavy heart and immeasurable sorrow that I announce the untimely and tragic death of our National treasurer, Dr. Enyi Okereke. Enyi died yesterday at Enugu, Nigeria of a heart attack. He was attending an arthroscopic Seminar in Enugu. Words alone can not express the depth of this loss. Enyi was a devoted ANPA member who lived the ANPA VISION. He attended many missions to different parts of Nigeria. He truly was devoted to a Healthier Nigeria. It is indeed an irony that if Enyi along with like minded others had achieved the ANPA vision to the fullest, Enyi might still be with us today. We are all in mourning and I am not sure if we can recover from this loss. I could go on and on and talk about Enyi, but I must stop to get this sad news out. Enyi was a gentleman. We will surely miss him. You can imagine what his immediate family is going through now. May the  Almighty God give them the strength to bear this loss.

ANPA Conference 2008: “Borne Out of Necessity”

Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen,

‘Lanrewaju Y. Jimoh - DNPT PresidentI feel very honored and privileged to represent the 23 Nigerian medical students in the room tonight and the hundreds more all over the Americas. We are very grateful to ANPA for their hospitality and generosity.

Before I continue, I think it is appropriate for us to reintroduce ourselves. We are the Distinguished Nigerian Physicians of Tomorrow. We are an organization borne out of necessity. The necessity to ensure the future of ANPA; under our organizational bylaws and charter with ANPA all of our members upon graduation from medical school will automatically become full member of ANPA.

The necessity: the necessity to harness the power in numbers to create a movement and indeed the vehicle for the much needed revitalization of Nigerian’s healthcare system. Our organization also includes Nigerian pre-med students in college across the country. We will provide them with mentorship and guidance just as you will provide us. With this system, we have a solid recruitment pipeline that will ensure the longevity of this great organization.

As I look around the room tonight, I feel humbled and proud at the same time; humbled by the presence of my fellow countrymen and women who are leaders in this noble field of medicine, excellent physicians, surgeons, researchers, and students, I am humbled by your numerous achievements in your different specialties. I am humbled by your hard work, dedication, love, and passion for our county Nigerian. Lastly, I am proud because today we know where we belong. We know that we are part of a proud heritage of distinguished Nigerian physicians who care about the health of the common man on the streets of Lagos.

We understand the challenges and the obstacles we face as we set out to achieve our dreams—individually and collectively. However, we are not daunted by the enormity of the task ahead and we pledge to live up to your expectations.

Once again we are very happy to be here and we look forward to many more conferences. Before I go, I would like to personally thank Dr. Yele Aluko ANPA outgoing national president for his support and advise when we needed it most. At this point, I ask the members of DNPT to rise and join me in saying a big thank you to ANPA and all its 1140 members.

E seun, Daalu, Nagode. Good night.
